I enjoyed this book. It was like reading Mr. Jones' personal diary, warts and all. I admired the author's determination, tenacity, and perserverance in pursuing his passion to be a professional actor. The journey wasn't an easy one, his having to overcome many obstacles that would discourage most of us. It was heartwarming to read that Mr. Jones has found a farm in rural upstate New York to spend his retirement years that brings him much joy and pleasure. I too am a "transplant" to upstate rural New York and find his views on living here to be encouraging and inspiring.Product details

This is a first person narrative biographical account of a NYC Broadway Actor who literally and figuratively "Buys the Farm". An invitation to a raw, self-deprecating expose' of a goal oriented type A personality that eventually ends up in utopia via upstate Delaware County, New York. The descriptive narrative disconcertily jumps from thought to event .. which makes for abrupt transitions (this seems to be a reflection of editing rather than writing). The book is poignant and moving. I despaired for him, cheered for him, criticized him and cried for him but was left wondering .... what's next? The man and the story are an inspiration for those facing any tragedy, be it cancer, mental illness, alcoholism or the tragedy of being human. Kudos to Jones for finding peace in nature by getting his hands dirty!
Excellent read. The author really takes you on a ride that is relatable to the reader in many ways. His memory of the moments in his life are detailed, impressive, and captivating. Heartwarming and a wonderful journey to go on.
The author takes a cathartic look at his life, the good times and the bad. Overcoming a difficult childhood, alcoholism and cancer and he treats it all with positive energy and no hostility. Editing could have been better. As he settles into life in the country his words are so positive and inspirational it filled me with hope. Life is not always kind but a positive spirit can overcome anything.
I met Randy, through our mutual friend, Katherine, on the way to literally buying the farm. Enjoyed his insight into life in general and the field of acting in particular. Humor runs throughout the book, through good times and bad. Fun and interesting read.
