A Sci-Fi Romance Adventure
In a world where droids outnumber humans, one droid stands out above all others. Rosie the droid is a conglomeration of the best features of every type of droid. Despite her superior design, Rosie's function is companion and assistant to an average working drone, Zach Saxon. At least that's the way things seem until suddenly, their reality shifts inexplicably out of phase. Everything they believed to be true was a lie. Both Rosie and Zach had been much more than a cog in the wheel. Their memories were erased. Their lives rewritten. Their potential stifled.

Every facet of their lives was closely monitored. Someone is watching every move and and thought. Despite the detailed observation of the watchers, Rosie and Zach blend as equals with a common purpose and thought. Zach's potential is unleashed while Rosie becomes much more than a droid. They become greater than the sum of their individual parts. They become dangerous, but to who. That is the question that preoccupies the watchers.

This is the PG-13 tale of love, science, and a possible future for humanity. The dangers of robots, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality are vividly realized. The central theme of the book is love. It is used as a sword, a shield, and the impetus of new life. You will see what few have ever witnessed. A love so pure, few can understand it.

Crux of the Bonding Crux Series Book 2 eBook Jim Neville

At the conclusion of Genesis, Ace has uploaded much of her self by using a mental transfer into Rosie, Zach’s droid. Zach performed a wipe of his memory in order to save Ace. They both go in different directions, each hoping to save the other from termination. This volume begins with Rosie, the droid, wading through all the conflicts in reasoning and emotions. Rosie is still with Zach who has no memory and she must lead him through virtual reality to rediscover himself and his particular talents. They form a unique bond, one which can only survive through complete trust in each other. Eventually, Zach is released from his VR pod and back into employment with the Thought Police, but everything is changed, including Zach. Though he has total trust in Rosie, they need to find a way to trust or terminate those who are now in charge of their destiny or they could be terminated themselves.
Most of this story is written in Rosie’s POV though we are given snippets from the leaders of the mission, the director and skipper. Their shipboard communications keep the reader informed on just how much of Rosie and Zach’s bonding they are privy to as they continually try to manipulate them. Masterful world building and an enjoyable sci-fi read.

Crux of the Bonding Crux Series Book 2 eBook Jim Neville Reviews

Very enjoyable read with many many twists and turns. Characters are likeable and storyline makes me think!
Colorado author Jim Neville brings to his Science Fiction books the experiences garnered form his knowledge of computer science (he earned his degree in Computer Science Summa Cum Laude!) and has written programs in computer programs, has served in the Air Force as a Broadcast Radio and Television engineer, and has lived around the globe (Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, and the US). But his heart and his eye are focused on art in all its forms – perhaps that is one of the reasons for his choice of the cover of this book (Bouguereau’s 1895 ‘The Abduction of Psyche). Jim carries that keen passion for art into his writing of this, his first book this reader has surveyed – THE CRUX OF PARAMOUR – A Sci-Fi Romance.

Much of the grace of Jim’s writing is demonstrable in his opening paragraphs – ‘Something was terribly wrong! I woke up with a thick fog rolling across my brain. It lasted a fraction of a second, but felt like an eternity. As my thoughts began to solidify, I realized I was in a precarious situation. There seemed to be two of me. One who knew his environment and another who felt out of place. Not just in this room, but in this time. I was surrounded by antique gadgets and furniture in a living space which was much too large for a single person. I tried to call out to Rosie, my service droid, but not a whisper departed my lips. It appeared I had sensory input of this environment, but lacked the ability to take any action. The part of me who was comfortable in this space proceeded to another room and began to prepare a beverage. Please let it be coffee! I was grateful it was, or at least it smelt like it. My joy was short lived as I realized the coffee was brewing at a snail's pace. This was going to take forever! The next step in this daily routine told me precisely how much out of place I was. It was time to access a data terminal ... manually. Everything required selection by hand. Nothing was intuitive. The process was laboriously slow. Even though my host played the keyboard like Beethoven on a piano, he had to actually read the results. He used a point-and-click device that slowed his progress even more.’ A strange atmosphere, plenty of conundrums to entice us to visit further, and an eloquence of prose that sets a pace for his novel.

Jim provides his own synopsis that bears his mark of written communication skills; ‘The central theme of the book is Love, which is used as a sword, a shield, and the impetus of new life. You will see what few have ever witnessed. A love so pure, few can understand it. This isn't your standard love story. Only part of it is human, the other half is ... something new. It was a robot, but it is no longer. Most of the love expressed is more spiritual than physical. All life has been destroyed on Earth by the Evil Mo Droid. The SS Mayflower is the last hope of humanity. It is a seed ship from Earth which left hundreds of years before the scourge of the Mo Droid. The Mayflower is the polar opposite of the Mo Droid. Its society is based on the principle of love. This is a battle between pure love and absolute evil. Are they allies or foes? This book answers that question as we also discover the true potential of the children of the Mayflower. One of the children is more powerful than anyone who has ever lived, or at least that is what we are led to believe at first.’

Lean back and relax into this adventure of escape – a book that takes us places and offers thoughts that bear surprises on nearly every page. This is a new author to watch. Grady Harp, February 17

Started to read this one first, but my curiosity about the history of the characters lead me to Genesis first.
Great read with several surprises. Loved it.
