I bought a copy of this book on behalf of my uncle Ivor, who wanted it on behalf of a friend living abroad, and had difficulty obtaining a copy of this out-of-print book. Before my uncle sent the book on, he opened it up and browsed through it, and was so delighted with it, that he wanted a copy for himself!Amazon keeps asking me to review it, and so I passed the request on to my uncle, who now has his own copy. Here's his description.
----
"Palgrave's selection of Lyrical Poetry and Songs, Books 1-4, taken from the 16th Century to the Romantic poetry of Wordsworth, Keats, Byron and Shelley, represents a range of human emotions, religious experience, and insight of the natural world and death. The poems are mainly by British poets, who express their thoughts and emotions in memorable, musical language--
'My heart leaps up when I behold | a rainbow in the sky ...'; 'The child is Father of the man ...'
"Oscar Williams has supplemented in Books 5-7 some of the poets not included by Palgrave, such as John Donne an other metaphysical poets, and taken his selections into the 2oth century. He has included T. S. Eliot, Yeates, Auden, Wilfred Owen, Frost, and Dylan Thomas, among others.
"This is a good collection of a broad range of poetry of four centuries."

The golden treasury Francis Turner Palgrave 9785518569492 Books Reviews
This is one of my favorite poetry collections. I wanted to get an updated version, since the one I have is really, really old. If you are into poetry, this is a must for any collection. So many great poets and poems. <3
A good collection, though I have a lot of good collections of similar material. The Golden Treasury does what it always claims provides access to the most popular in this particular genre.
There's lots of good stuff in this book. It's very sturdy and has a poem for every mood.
But sometimes, it felt like it was missing some of the classic poems I was looking for, but I'm not a hardcore English or poetry studier. Maybe it was okay that it was like that.
I positively loved the original sections that Palgrave chose, which are in the beginning, rather than the more modern poems.
I liked it. I recommend it as a good starting poetry anthology. =)
Good book .
Lovely selection of poems. Recommended for anyone interested in a wide variety of quality poetry
Great volume! Now I must educate myself on the references to allusions of name common to the date(s) these poems were written. Not a bad thing. For example Hera, Jove and Delphi.
Had a 1960 something hardback edition of this as a gift from my father when I was very young and I learned reams of poetry from it. I lost that edition somewhere among the many moves since then.. This edition, as a paperback, isn't nearly as lovely - it lacks the fine quality paper, the beautiful printing, the ability to lie flat - but the poems are there that I have loved all my life, and it's nice to have that again.
